traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability in the US. TBI can be caused by a bump or jolt to the head or a penetrating injury. TBI are placed into three categories: mild, moderate, and severe. If you suspect your child might have a TBI or experienced a recent injury involving their head you should see a medical professional. Most people who experience TBIs can recover safely at home however, some require additional care to prevent long term injury. TBIs during childhood can disrupt a child’s development and can limit their ability to participate in activities.
